TJU part II

Here goes… ThisJustUp-UMaine (beta): my original intention for ThisJustUp.

Having been satisifed with the TechTV version of the site (and pleasantly suprised by the fact that people have already submitted stories) and with the responses I’ve gotten to the New Media Society survey I’ve sent out, I’ve decided to open up TJU-UM for trial.

It’s basically the same as TJU-TechTV (same code, even), but this one will have more features. The biggest one will be a calendar feature I’m trying for campus events; you’ll be able to see all events going on around campus at a specific time. For now, though, I’m just sticking to the base site.

I’m not sure if/how this is going to work; people might not be interested in something like this (I think it’s a great idea, of course, but not everyone else will) or everyone might be. Most likely it will be somewhere in between, but I’ve been thinking about what would happen if either of the extremes were right. If no one is interested (kind of like what happened with RateMyPage, although I now see I was targeting it at the wrong audience – I did get to see some really good UMaine student pages, though), I can just target it to another audience; I’m thinking it could work for cities/towns, celebrities, networks, shows, bands, etc. The harder scenario is if it really catches on. If I get 1000 stories a day submitted (yeah, right… but a lot of stuff happens on campus), I have to find a way to handle it. I’ll either have to shut the site down for a while and rethink how I’ll do this or get some people as co-editors. Whatever the case, I hope it works well.

So go on over, kick the tires, and let me know if anything goes wrong. I won’t be publicizing it other than here until I know all the kinks are out, but I’d love to get some material up there while it’s in beta.
