Baseball back in Bangor (Orono)
Tonight I went to the home opener of the new professional Bangor Lumberjacks baseball team. It was a lot of fun – it really reminded me of a couple years ago when the Bangor Blue Ox played here. In both cases, it’s great to see people having fun with baseball right in my backyard (literally, since it’s played at one of the baseball fields at the University).
The atmosphere was great. Even though the Lumberjacks lost, I bought a cap and had a lot of fun watching the games and the little promotions between innings. There were even fireworks after the game.
Bangorlumberjacks.com has information about the team, as well as links to webcasts on WHCF.
One last thing: there were a lot of jokes spread around tonight that I guarantee will be old after a couple of games. Comparisons to player Stephen King and the writer (who lives in Bangor) happened one too many times. A few too many people broke out in song when Jude Voltz stepped up to bat. Enough with the lame jokes, already. They’re lumberjacks and they’re OK.
