People rant #35

I really wish people were more mature.

Guess I can’t have everything I want, though. Oh well. Hopefully I’ll learn to deal one of these years.

Rock Against Rape 2

I spent my afternoon at the SigEp frat house (actually, on their front lawn) listening to five awesome Maine bands: Now Transmission, Lifedown, Headstart, 6gig, and Paranoid Social Club. The show, a benefit for the campus’s Rape Response Services, was free for everyone. We got lots more than we paid for, though!

All the bands were great, but 6gig was awesome as always. It’s good to hear their new music in concert (my favorite is “Free”). Walt, the lead singer, also teamed up with PSC to sing some of their best known songs. The members from all the groups even got together and sung a great version of “Wasted” alongside PSC to open their set. About halfway through the PSC set I went backstage and I was lucky enough to be introduced to Lifedown and listened to PSC right alongside the members of the other performing bands. It was an awesome concert, and SigEp did a great job with it.

Standing ground at UMaine

While about half of the New Media Society is somewhere in Linz, Austria, showing work from UMaine, I’m on campus (by choice) representin’ the NMS.

It really should be a good year for the Society. In addition to the early showing at ARS Electronica, CodePlay@UMe will be given justice at other exhibitions and festivals throughout the year (mostly a little closer to home).

We’ve got a team of really big things going on: the BHP and BHT. Hopefully we can get the BHT to actually happen; we’d like to hold our own festival of speakers, workshops, and other events right here at UMaine. The BHP would be a place like Montreal’s SAT within walking distance of campus… couple miles away. Members are already talking to people about getting funding and/or support for that… it’d be a huge boost for central/eastern Maine culture.

Then there’s the NMS web site. That’ll be coming, too. Turns out I might be doing some work for UMaine’s Parking Services, too, so my time will be kind of tight. But it’ll get done… it’s near the top of my list. And it’ll be good.

Take the program. Have fun. Remember, Maine’s the one with the “I Lead” motto.

Ooooh, fun… it’s even easier now!

I don’t really like doing this with the crappy design of my blog right now (ie, IE CSS problems and such), but I just had to do it.

Fun fun game!

1. Choose three common nouns (ex. “post route pool”).

2. Go to Google and type in the three words you chose.

3. Pick a random number within the results (if there are 571,000 results, choose, say, 25).

4. Visit the web page at the rank you chose.

5. Post the address of the site as a comment to this entry along with a rating, from 1 to 10 (10 being best) of the design of the site.
