Little red flags from heck!
I try to set goals for myself for nights that I know I’ll be alone with nothing to do. One of tonight’s goals is to read the unread messages in the 28 FirstClass discussion conferences that I have marked as favorites. FirstClass does a wonderfully annoying trick of placing a little red devil flag next to any conference that has unread messages. Your resulting stress level is directly proportional to the number of tortuous red flags you see on your FirstClass desktop, and you can judge how long it will take to read through all of the conversations by the percentage of conferences with red flags. Tonight I have about ten conferences to get through.
Of course, it might not get done. Many of my goals never get accomplished when I’d like them to be done. Or, of course, I could just hit Command-A then Command– to mark all of the conferences as unread. That’s the ultimate lazy person’s defense against the little devil flags.
