Two Cents and a Thousand Words

I had my hair cut yesterday. For the first time in a really long time, I’ve decided to grow it out. It’s amazing how much of a difference such a small factor of your appearance can change how you look; a lot of people have told me that they like me with longer hair, so I thought I’d finally try it.

Living on the edge, I know.

Good habits start at bedtime

I could really get used to this whole semi-early bedtime thing, especially seeing as how I get up at 7:00 each morning to get ready for work. That doesn’t apply for school or other times when people are doing things past midnight, but it works when I have nothing else to do.

One of the friends I’ve talked to online named Danielle sums it up quite nicely: “its my boring life and i can go to bed at [11pm] if i want to!”

Little red flags from heck!

I try to set goals for myself for nights that I know I’ll be alone with nothing to do. One of tonight’s goals is to read the unread messages in the 28 FirstClass discussion conferences that I have marked as favorites. FirstClass does a wonderfully annoying trick of placing a little red devil flag next to any conference that has unread messages. Your resulting stress level is directly proportional to the number of tortuous red flags you see on your FirstClass desktop, and you can judge how long it will take to read through all of the conversations by the percentage of conferences with red flags. Tonight I have about ten conferences to get through.

Of course, it might not get done. Many of my goals never get accomplished when I’d like them to be done. Or, of course, I could just hit Command-A then Command– to mark all of the conferences as unread. That’s the ultimate lazy person’s defense against the little devil flags.

As a follow-up…

Please, oh please, let Congress do something good

Today will be the day that I decide if I’ve lost all faith in Congress.

(of course, Duprey is supporting a ban)

What police do when they’re bored

Yesterday I was headed to my dentist appointment from work (no cavities, woo!) and I noticed that a state trooper pulled out into traffic from the median. I kept going and saw that two others had pulled cars over. In total, five state troopers were hanging out in the median right outside of Hogan Road, waiting to pull cars over. They were still there when I went back two hours later. They must’ve really boosted their tallies with that kind of stunt; I’m just glad I’d seen them going back so that I knew to go 55 when I returned.

I’ve been reminded recently that people actually read this blog. With a few exceptions who have already done so (thank you), comment on posts and tell me what you think! It won’t kill ya, and it’ll make me feel loved. :-p

Beds aren’t just for jumping

It seems as though I’ll have the opportunity to experience a pre-midnight bedtime tonight. While rare, these occasions are often beneficial for a number of reasons – especially after driving 10+ hours the day before.

I’m headed down to Mansfield, MA, with Amber and the crew tomorrow to check out Dave Matthews and his band. You might’ve heard of them.

I’m really, really, really excited about it. Many of the new things I’ve tried with Amber (both when we were going out and now) have turned out really well – softball, dancing, kayaking, and now this week of concerts we’ll be doing in greater Boston – and I’m really looking forward to going with the group on a little mini road trip. We’re renting an SUV, I guess, so we can get comfortable for the ride down. Between all of us, I’ve heard we have all the DMB CD’s, so we’ll probably be doing some karaoke, too. That’ll be interesting in itself; maybe I can do some of the melodies and do drums while other people do the singing (since I know I don’t have the best voice in the world). Or maybe I’ll sing in bass. That seems to be a hit.

I’ve just got so much to say about it… maybe too much… I guess I’d talk about it everyday when people ask “Where are you going?” I mean, what would you say?

Can any of my scholarly English/language friends provide me with an example of when unto is used in a context other than in the Golden Rule?
